Global Epoxy Resin Capacity, Production, Demand-Supply, Pricing and Market Forecast Analysis, 2034 |
Epoxy Resin is a type of synthetic polymer when mixed with a hardener or curing agent, undergoes a chemical reaction to form a strong, rigid plastic with excellent adhesive properties. These resins are manufactured through the reaction of epichlorohydrin with bisphenol-A, followed by curing with a hardener to form a rigid, durable polymer.
Epoxy resins bond well to various materials such as wood, metal, glass, and ceramics. Its low viscosity allows it to flow easily into cracks and gaps, providing smooth and even coverage. Once cured, epoxy is resistant to water, chemicals, and heat, making it perfect for both decorative and practical uses, such as countertops, flooring, and protective coatings.
Global Epoxy Resins Suppliers
As of 2023, global nameplate Epoxy Resins capacity stood at 6,500 kilo tons, representing a twofold increase compared to 2016. Asia Pacific is the largest epoxy resins producer, accounting for over 60% of the global capacity with China being the largest producer. During the forecast period, major epoxy resins capacity is being added mostly in Asia Pacific and Central & Eastern Europe. In terms of regional capacity, majority of the supply is available in Asia Pacific with total capacity of over 5,000 kilo tons in 2023.
China's epoxy resins production capacity reached around 3,400 kilo tons in 2023, an 13% increase from the previous year. Epoxy resins nameplate capacity in China is projected to cross 3,700 kilo tons just in short term forecast period, with Ruixiang Chemical Company already commenced production at its facility in China with capacity of 95 kilo tons in 2024. Companies such as Anhui Hengxing New Material, Zhejiang Haobang Chemical, and Dongying Hebang Chemical are adding new epoxy resins production facilities in the country which will commence operation in the next 3-4 years.
In India, Aditya Birla expanded their existing epoxy resins capacity by 29% in 2023. The company added 246 kilo tons of epoxy resins to their existing plant in Bharuch, Gujarat. Catering to the high epoxy resins demand, DCM Shriram plans to start a 75 kilo tons epoxy resins plant in Gujarat which is set to start by 2029.
In Russia, AO GC Titan is building a new epoxy resin plant with a capacity of 40 kilo tons, expected to commence operation by 2028. Akkim Kimya in Turkey and Chimcomplex in Romania will start producing epoxy resins by 2025, with capacities of 43 kilo tons and 50 kilo tons, respectively.
Global Epoxy Resin Demand Analysis
The global epoxy resins market stood at 3,200 kilo tons in 2023, registering an annual average growth rate of around 3.5% in last seven years, mainly driven by increased epoxy resins consumption in Paints & Coatings, Automotive, Wind Turbine, and Adhesives industries. Of the 3,265 kilo tons of epoxy resins produced in 2023, over 40% were estimated to have been used in paints & coatings, translating to around 1,300 kilo tons. Electrical & Electronics and Construction collectively accounted for around 40% of the total epoxy resins demand. Adhesives and Composites together accounted for around 15% share, while all other miscellaneous applications constituted for the remainder of the consumed volumes.
