This comprehensive client computing devices report takes information from over 400 interviews with school IT decision makers in the USA. The respondents represent all 50 states, grouped by East Coast, West Coast and Central states.

Understanding the current adoption levels of EdTech in K-12 schools, along with planned investment, is often challenging. This is due to the large number of vendors and the different solutions offered to schools. In addition, the decision-makers and influencers often operate at district level, so CTOs and CIOs do not have the same level of influence typical of other industries.

This report focuses on the current and projected ownership of desktop PCs, laptops, Chromebooks and tablets, as well as the key priorities and obstacles faced.

This client device computing report is one in a series of four reports, with the other three reports covering:

  • Audio Visual Devices
  • Administration Tools
  • Classroom Tools

Market Trends:

As we approach nearly 6 years on from the start of the pandemic, US schools are finally reaching the start point of a major fleet refresh for a substantial majority of devices initially purchased during the pandemic in 2021, and shortly after, benefitting from numerous federal response funding schemes. These devices now at their end of life, schools are under immense pressure to navigate the next few years in their device procurement choices, particularly in the absence of government funding.

In addition to large proportions of device fleets at their end of life, schools are also facing the end of Windows 10 support back in October, requiring many to either upgrade or find alternatives to their eligible Windows devices.

Areas Explored:

  • Feedback on the current usage of EdTech in schools and planned investment of computing devices.
  • Insights into which factors are most important to schools when investing in computing devices and their planned future purchases.
  • Barriers to investment are also explored, as well as key methods of procurement.
  • EdTech market analysis
  • EdTech market size
